Hello, my name is Žiga, and this is my personal blog. I mostly write about athletics, but I also occasionally use it as an outlet for my thoughts about life, movies, and games. You can read more about me below.

BACKGROUND

I was born in 1993 and I live in Ljubljana, Slovenia. I love my country geographically and not so much politically, but I do recognize that we’re very privileged compared to some of the other places in this crazy world. I’m open-minded and interested in a lot of things, basically pretty much everything from A to Z. I have an optimistic outlook on life and a fine-tuned sense of justice (so I never cheat at board games).

CAREER

In 2017 I graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana. I was never a big fan of our education system, so I was struggling to find my academic interests. But I’ve always trusted my intuition and I felt like I was on the right path towards opening up interesting options in the future.

I spend a lot of time studying and following the world of finance & cryptocurrencies. Not just for monetary reasons, but also for the wider socio-economic disruption that they’re bringing into our lives. In early 2018 I started working at the nascent company “Kriptomat,” which steadily and stubbornly grew into one of Europe’s top regulated crypto exchanges. My tasks initially ranged from various forms of copywriting and marketing activities. As our operations grew, I started to manage our customer support and helped scale it to new heights. Presently, I am working as a compliance officer and payments specialist.

HOBBIES

I love sports and I used to train football at a local club for almost 6 years when I was in primary school. I quit for a variety of reasons, but the beautiful game still holds a special place in my heart. I’m a supporter of Manchester United.

I was usually the fastest kid at school and I’ve always loved athletics, but somehow never got into it more seriously. In 2011 I met an athletics coach who recognized my potential, so I enthusiastically decided to go for it. I trained seriously for about 3 years (400m & 800m) before focusing completely on my studies. I feel very lucky to have been in a group with some of the most talented youngsters this country’s ever seen.

I will always have a soft spot for athletics and football, but I generally enjoy almost any sport because it’s a great teacher of life. You learn to work hard, set goals and stay humble. I’m now an ex-athlete, but I still religiously follow the sport. I love to analyze all sorts of things when it comes to athletic performances (as evidenced by the contents of this blog). I remain active and I reckon I’m still tough to beat if you challenge me to a short footrace ;).

I like to read and be informed about world news. Even though I’m not a classical bookworm, I can easily gobble up hundreds of pages if I lay my hands on an interesting book.

I’m also a home theater enthusiast due to my love of movies and the technology that goes into making them. And last but not least, I’m a big car enthusiast, hence the banner image from Nürburgring Nordschleife━one of my favorite places in the world.
